How to Convert mph to km/h (Speed Conversion)

To convert mph to km/h, multiply by 1.609. The formula, a quick speed table and why the two units matter for driving and running.

To convert miles per hour to kilometres per hour, multiply by 1.609. For example, 60 mph × 1.609 = 96.6 km/h. To reverse it, divide km/h by 1.609.

The formula

  • km/h = mph × 1.60934
  • mph = km/h ÷ 1.60934

Since a mile is about 1.6 km, a speed in km/h is always a larger number than the same speed in mph.
